Meet Our Llamas

**As of summer, 2023, four of our llamas are still with us: Dewey, Storm, Canute, and Sky.**

Vega
Vega was bought as part of our original five llamas. She was born in 2001 and had one cria, Altair, in 2006. Although she looks brown, under those long guard hairs is a lovely silver colored fleece. Vega is a mini llama, but we have never officially registered her with the American Miniature Llama Association.
Winter
Winter is the mother of two other members of our herd, Snow and Storm.
Before joining our herd Winter was a 4-H llama. She works very well with children.
She was born in 1999 and as her name implies, she is all white.
Storm
Also born in 2006, Winter is Storm’s Mother and Snow is his half sister.
Storm spent his first year trying to find out if the grass really is greener on the other side of the fence. {Silly boy! We lived in Wyoming then. There wasn't much green grass anywhere!}
Sky
The last of four crias born in 2006. Paletta is Sky’s mother.
He is part Bolivian which may explain his beautiful, silky fiber.
It is fun for me to see the ways he is like his mother: his toenails have to be clipped more often than most of the herd; his front teeth have been long and protruding since he was about 2 years old; and his temperament is sweet and mellow.

Dewey
Dewey was one of our original 5-member herd. She loved going for long walks in the Wyoming prairie with Larry. By the time she was 4 she had taken over the guard duties. She shares that job with some of the other llamas, but still asserts herself as the “boss.”
Canute
Born in 2006, Canute was the first cria born into our herd. Dewey is his mother.
Canute has learned how to tip the feeders over so he (and others) can lay down and eat.
I call him my drama llama because instead of just spitting at another llama trying to eat out of his feeder, he will garggle, grunt, and generally make a rucus until the "intruder" gives up and moves on.
Below are pictures and bios of our llamas who have passed on.
I didn't want to delete photo's and biographies just because they had died and were no longer physically with us. We love these animals and know that many visitors to our farm do, too.
Tippi Canoe
Tippi Canoe was born in 2001. He spent a number of years as a 4-H llama.
Tippi came to live with us in 2007 when we borrowed him to be the guard for our male yearlings. We loved him and his way with our “little boys” so much we couldn't give him back so instead, we bought him.
Tippi was a remarkable llama, and was a favorite with many visitors to our farm.
Tippi died on September 25, 2021.
Evening Star
Evening Star was less than 1 when she came to live with us in 2004 as part of our original herd. Evening Star was one of our larger llamas, but was such a gentle soul.
She died on January 21, 2021.

Evening Star has twice been attacked by dogs. The first time she was chased off our property and spent two nights by herself on neighboring ranchland. Dewey (being led by our llama mentor) helped bring her back home. Paletta, Snow and Star were visibly jubilant upon her return.
Gorgeous Guy
Gorgeous Guy was born in 2004 and came to live with us in 2007. We were fortunate to have 12 years with him.
Guy had gorgeous, soft fiber – which may be how he got his name.
He died on August 12, 2019, surrounded by all his llama friends.
Paletta
Paletta was one of our original herd of five. She was stoic, even by llama standards. She was 17 years old when she died on February 9, 2015 and is remembered and missed every day.

Sky, her cria, is just 1 day old in this picture.
Kat
Born in 1996. Kat was 22 when she died on June 24, 2019. Kat really benefited from our move to Vashon. The warmer weather suited her.
Kat was officially a mini llama but her personality was HUGE.
Altaire
The second of four babies born in 2006. Vega is his mother.​
Altaire was smart and gregarious. I always said it was a good thing he didn't have opposable thumbs.
Altaire took any open gate as an opportunity and any closed door as a challenge!
He was only 12 when he died on March 10, 2019.
Snow
Snow – Winter’s Snow – was one of our original 5 llamas. She was less than 1 when she came to live with us in 2004. Snow died on April 13, 2020. She was almost 17 years old.
Even when she was grumpy, she always looked like she was smiling.
Fearless Kiss
Fearless came to live with us in 2007 when she was just 2 years old. She was 16 when she died on July 19, 2021.
Fearless was my "wild child." She loved to race across the field, or prance about at sunset.

Each llama is distinct and has a different personality. Often people ask us if they all have names – OF COURSE – and if they respond to their names – YES!
